TOUR HIGHLIGHTS
Step inside the UNESCO-listed Gelati Monastery near Kutaisi, founded by King David the Builder. Marvel at its golden medieval mosaics and frescoes, once the heart of a famous academy known as “a new Athens.”
Travel into Racha, a quiet, deeply green mountain region of forests and alpine meadows, home to the carved church of Nikortsminda, the resort of Shovi and the famous Khvanchkara wine.
Glide by boat through Martvili Canyon, a gorge of mossy marble walls and clear jade-green water once reserved for local nobility. Above, paths lead past small waterfalls and pools.
Walk the vertigo-inducing cliff-edge walkway of Okatse Canyon, suspended high above the river, then visit the tiered Kinchkha Waterfall tumbling through the forest nearby.

Gelati and Motsameta
We begin in the hills above Kutaisi at the UNESCO-listed Gelati Monastery, with its medieval mosaics, and the small clifftop Motsameta above a wooded gorge.

Racha – Shovi and Nikortsminda
A scenic drive north into the green mountains of Racha brings us to the alpine resort of Shovi among pine forests and mineral springs, and the richly carved church of Nikortsminda, with an overnight in the wine town of Ambrolauri.

Oni and return
We explore the old town of Oni, with its historic synagogue and quiet streets, before the beautiful drive back down toward Kutaisi.

Martvili and Okatse
Our last day takes in the emerald Martvili Canyon by boat and the cliff-edge walkway of Okatse high above the river before departure.
