Martvili Canyon
Emerald canyon explored by boat
In the green Samegrelo region of western Georgia, Martvili Canyon is a narrow gorge of mossy marble walls and clear emerald water, once the private bathing place of the noble Dadiani family.
Today visitors glide through the canyon by inflatable boat, passing beneath small waterfalls and overhanging greenery, the water an almost unreal shade of jade. Above the gorge, walking paths and viewing platforms lead to further falls and pools.
The canyon is part of a wider landscape of caves and rivers, and prehistoric dinosaur footprints have even been found nearby — a reminder of how ancient this lush corner of the country is.
Martvili pairs easily with the nearby Okatse Canyon and the monasteries around Kutaisi for a full day of western Georgian nature.
Join us at Martvili to drift through emerald water between marble cliffs.
