TOUR ITINERARY
DAY
1
Gelati, Motsameta and Prometheus Cave
We spend the morning in the green hills above Kutaisi at the UNESCO-listed Gelati Monastery, founded in 1106 by King David the Builder and famous for its golden mosaics and the medieval academy once known as "a new Athens." A short drive brings us to the small Motsameta Monastery, perched dramatically on a cliff above a wooded river bend. In the afternoon we descend underground into Prometheus Cave, a vast, illuminated world of stalactites and subterranean rivers, finishing with a quiet boat ride through the glowing passages before we return to Kutaisi.
