We begin in the hills above Kutaisi at the UNESCO-listed Gelati Monastery, with its medieval mosaics and frescoes, and the small Motsameta perched on a cliff above a wooded river gorge.

Prometheus Cave and Sataplia
Today we go underground into the illuminated halls and subterranean river of Prometheus Cave, then visit the Sataplia Nature Reserve, where real dinosaur footprints are preserved in the rock beside a forest canopy walk.

Racha – Ambrolauri and Nikortsminda
A beautiful drive north into the green mountains of Racha brings us to the wine town of Ambrolauri, home of Khvanchkara, and the richly carved 11th-century church of Nikortsminda before departure.
