TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

Kartlis Deda, The Mother of Georgia Monument standing over the Old Tbilisi district

The capital bookends the journey: sulfur baths that gave the city its name, Art Nouveau stairwells in Sololaki, and more natural-wine bars per square kilometre than almost anywhere in Europe. Arrive to a welcome supra, return for a farewell one — with a bath-house steam in between to make room for the last tastings.

Kartlis Deda, The Mother of Georgia Monument standing over the Old Tbilisi district

Georgia has been making wine for eight thousand vintages, and the qvevri method — fermentation in beeswax-lined clay vessels buried in the earth — is UNESCO-listed intangible heritage. Winter is when it comes alive: the vessels are freshly opened, the young wine is cloudy and electric, and tastings move from courtyards to firesides in family marani cellars where the winemaker pours and grandmother approves.

Kartlis Deda, The Mother of Georgia Monument standing over the Old Tbilisi district

Pastel houses, wooden balconies and a full ring of 18th-century defensive walls, perched on a ridge above the Alazani Valley — with the white wall of the Greater Caucasus filling the horizon beyond. In winter Sighnaghi trades its wedding-town bustle for wood-smoke and silence, and the walk along the fortress walls at dusk is worth the trip on its own.

TOUR ITINERARY

DAY
1
Arrival & Old Tbilisi

We meet you at the airport and check you in in the centre. The evening is a soft landing into the old town: Narikala by cable car, the steaming domes of Abanotubani, and a first glass in the natural-wine bars of Sololaki. Welcome dinner included.

DAY
2
Sighnaghi & Qvevri Cellars

East into Kakheti, Georgia's wine heartland. We walk the fortress walls of Sighnaghi — the 'City of Love' — above a snow-dusted Alazani Valley, visit Bodbe Monastery where St Nino rests, and descend into family marani cellars where young wine is drawn straight from the buried clay qvevri, a UNESCO-listed tradition 8,000 vintages old. Overnight at a wine château among the vineyards.

DAY
3
Tsinandali & the Winemaker's Table

A day at the winemaker's table. The historic Tsinandali estate opens the morning; then a hands-on masterclass — churchkhela dipped strand by strand, and shoti bread slapped onto the walls of a blazing tone oven. Chacha tasting before a long fireside dinner where the winemaker does the talking.

DAY
4
Return to Tbilisi

We amble back to Tbilisi via the wine boutiques of Telavi, with time for a sulfur-bath session before the farewell dinner in the old town. For corporate groups this evening converts beautifully into a blind-tasting team battle or a 'blend your own cuvée' workshop.
