ARMENIA OFF-ROAD:
6-DAY 4x4 JEEP EXPEDITION
Unseen Landscapes: From Mount Dimats to Ancient Highland Monasteries
Discover the wild side of Armenia — from the iconic silhouette of Mount Ararat to the deep forests of Dilijan and the rugged peaks of Mount Khustup. This off-road Jeep adventure takes you far beyond the usual routes, into remote gorges, ancient cave villages, high mountain ridges, and lakeside monasteries. Explore the stone masterpieces of Noravank, walk through the caves of Old Khndzoresk, ride the Wings of Tatev cable car, and stand among the prehistoric stones of Karahunj.
This journey reveals Armenia as a land of contrasts and layers: medieval fortresses, forgotten caravanserais, alpine meadows, and crystal-blue Lake Sevan. Along the way, you meet local artisans, taste homemade cheeses and wine, and stay in rural guesthouses where Armenian hospitality is warm, simple, and genuine. Safe, welcoming, and rich in history, Armenia offers an off-road experience that connects adventure with culture at every turn.

TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1
SOUTHERN ARMENIA
We leave Yerevan in the morning and drive south. Our first stop is Khor Virap, where we get a clear view of Mount Ararat and walk around the old monastery. Then we continue through the canyons toward Noravank, known for its 13th-century churches and dramatic red cliffs. Later we visit Shaki Waterfall and take a short walk to the viewpoint. By evening we arrive in Goris, where we have dinner and overnight.
Day 3
KHUSTUP & KARAHUNJ
This day is more off-road. We take jeeps toward Mount Khustup for views and light hiking. After returning, we visit Zorats Karer (Karahunj), a prehistoric megalith sanctuary, ancient stones standing in the wind, older than many civilizations, aligned with the stars.
In the evening, we drive to Yeghegis village and stay in a local guesthouse.
Day 5
DILIJAN REGION
We drive to Dilijan and take an off-road route to Mount Dimats, known for its panoramic views. We spend some time on the ridge before visiting Haghartsin Monastery in the forest.
Afterward, we continue to the Lori region for an overnight stay in a rural guesthouse.
Day 2
KHNDZORESK & TATEV
We start the day by visiting Old Khndzoresk, crossing the suspension bridge and exploring the cave dwellings. The road then leads us through Devil’s Gorge, a narrow and scenic route.
At Tatev, we take the Wings of Tatev cable car and spend time at the monastery.
After that, we continue to Kapan for dinner and the nightover.
Day 4
FORTRESSES & SEVAN LAKE
In the morning we head to Smbataberd Fortress, reaching its ruins. A short drive takes us to the Orbelyan Caravanserai, one of the best-preserved medieval inns in Armenia. Then we stop in Noratus for cheese and wine tasting with local artisans. The day ends at Lake Sevan, where we stay in a lakeside cottage.
Day 6
THE NORTHERN ARMENIA
In the morning, we explore the UNESCO-listed monasteries of Haghpat and Sanahin. We also stop at the Arevatsag Gorge viewpoint, and later at the Armenian Alphabet Monument.
Our tour ends with our return drive to Yerevan in the evening.

The perfect season for jeeping in Armenia is March to November, when the roads are open and the landscapes change beautifully from spring greens to autumn colors. Spring brings mild temperatures around 20–25°C, ideal for exploring canyons, mountain villages, and off-road trails. Nature is vibrant, with blooming vineyards and fruit trees, while snow still rests on distant peaks, creating striking contrasts. Tourist sites are calm and uncrowded during this period, offering a comfortable and authentic way to experience Armenia’s diverse regions.
