Glide by boat through Martvili Canyon, a gorge of mossy marble walls and clear jade-green water once reserved for local nobility. Above, paths lead past small waterfalls and pools.

Walk the vertigo-inducing cliff-edge walkway of Okatse Canyon, suspended high above the river, then visit the tiered Kinchkha Waterfall tumbling through the forest nearby.

Gelati, Motsameta and Prometheus Cave

Our first day takes in the UNESCO-listed Gelati Monastery and the clifftop Motsameta, then the illuminated Prometheus Cave with its boat ride through glowing underground passages.

Martvili, Okatse and Skurcha

A day of canyons: a boat ride between the marble walls of Martvili, the cliff-edge walkway of Okatse high above the river, and the quieter Skurcha gorge, with waterfalls throughout.

Tskaltubo and departure

Before leaving we visit the faded spa resort of Tskaltubo, with its grand, half-abandoned Soviet bathhouses and sanatoria – an atmospheric end to the trip – before departure from Kutaisi.
